Ice / Fishing Reports

February 1, 2012
1st set of bumps has 18in+ of ice out there, after that there is about 12-12.5 inches.
Jim and Nascar went out to the East Flats and popped a bunch of holes and found a consistent 11in. We are currently not moving shacks out there because it can not handle that kind of traffic!

Ice report - Ice is in good conditions we have 18.5 to 19 inches. Still looking to go to east flat...we will be checking ice condition later this week and be letting people know as soon as we find out! Even with the warmer weather the ice seems to be getting thicker and thicker a little each night!

Fishing report - Fishing is still good if you want to get out and move around your still able to get your limit! If you work for it! Try to stay out of the higher traffic areas it is the key to catching fish. Out in 29 ft of water is where you will get a mix of fish. First break line is still catching fish too in about 17.5-19 ft of water!

The fishing is doing well! The carlsona sands have been really hot and over by the rock pile! You need to still stay within a mile and a half of resort for good ice! 14 inches out there except Out about 2.5 miles is a lot of thin ice still! People have been catching walleye and perch! January 17, 2012

We have 14 inches of good ice from rock pile all out in front of barnacles.

The ice is holding together so far, everything that melted yesterday was frozen good early in the morning and I seen no water on ice when I left the lake this morning. After today things look much better as far as the weather is concerned. To Bill Neska you and your shack should be a ok in your spot after tonight.

We are pulling ice houses to the sands and rock pile. The ice is at 12 inches in most areas with some 11 inches. People are driving out now.

I just got off lake a little bit ago, you can see last nights catch on facebook. I should of waited a little longer before I started keeping fish since I had to throw back at least 1 limit of 17 and 1/2 's. The ice is not growing that fast, we need some colder weather to start pulling. It looked like and sounded like we were not making any ice until early this morning. I notice the water I took on yesterday is freezing a little. We will need this cold day and night to get back the good look to the ice we had. Yesterdays warmer weather melted almost all of the snow on the lake and I took on 2 inches of water and the ice around the shoreline started looking foggy. At the earliest we figure we could consider pulling is Wednesday. I have been doing daily updates on Facebook if you are not seeing them try refreshing or something. I have been doing daily updates on Facebook since it seems to be easier look there if you are wanting more information on ice and fishing otherwise we will have updates on website based more on when we are going to pull houses. Today's check of the ice was 10 inches most of the ice around here has had a chance to freeze good and seems to be making ice again. Once the ice gets so thick it takes very cold weather to make it as fast as it first does but we have not had much cold weather. At least when it was warm it seemed we didn’t loose anything and sometimes made a little when it wasn’t below freezing. It is looking like we might start to pull some houses on Monday following Christmas but this is not for sure. We can pull some smaller shacks but it is still ATV traffic only. Fishing has been good the best fishing has been in areas where there is less traffic, people have been reporting to me along the break in several spots and the only thing they have in common is they are away from the groups, people thinking one spot is better on the break than others so they crowd it and no one gets any but the people who have spread away from the traffic.

I just went out for a quick check today and found 7 1/2 inches around the break. The ice is looking a lot better now with some cold weather. Yesterday I looked out at the wealthwood public access and seen open water stretching from at least there to garrison it looked like. I also heard from some fishermen that there was open water from garrison to myr-mar. The cracks out to the east flat probably healed but we are not going out there yet. Several people have been fishing out there all week even in the warm weather but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you really know what you are doing. Be aware of the direction of the wind if you choose to go out there because you may find yourself trolling and end up in garrison. Fishing was really good until last night's cold weather came in. We did still have a lot of bites and there were fish around but not as good as it has been. Glow in the dark and rattle reels seem to be the best. 18 – 22 feet of water along the break in the evenings and into the night has been the best. As far as driving and pulling shacks it doesn’t look good until after Christmas. This may change and we will have a better idea as soon as there is more cold weather and after this weekend. Our access is looking very good and the areas around the cracks w
here we bridge have 12 – 16 inches of ice since we flooded them. ATV travel to the sands and rock pile should not be a problem this weekend but always be careful anything can happen on early ice.

The ice looks good. I am finding many areas with 7 inches but there are a lot of patches with 4 to 5 inches of ice. It is very easy to pick out the bad areas. Stay away from cracked up areas that are white and have a little snow or water by them and it is very good ice. Almost all of the clear ice around us has reached 7 inches. People are taking ATVs to east flat. I built a little wooded bridge at the active crack near shore, I would suggest using it. I am going to try and get to East Flat today on an ATV. Fishing has been very good in the evenings and night straight lines and glow in the dark until at least 9:00 pm. They have been biting very light a slower presentation has been best. It almost seems like spring again in more than one way with the fish biting better deeper and then moving in shallow. After this warm spell is over and we get some colder weather for a few days we will be better able to guess when we can pull but as far as it goes now it is ATV traffic only for probably at least a week.

December 9, 2011
The official ice measurement for today is 5 inches out to the break. The normal crack has developed in 3 to 4 feet of water and it looks like it runs the parallel to shoreline. There is another crack that was active just before the break but is freezing solid and it don’t look like it will be an issue to cross without bridge tomorrow. We have 2 planks out for foot traffic and expect to get a big bridge out over the main crack for ATV travel tomorrow. Cheese got a few last night on the break just before sunset. With the full moon and the warm weather coming this weekend should be good.

December 8, 2011
All of the ice I checked except next to cracks had at least 3 inches of ice. The ice next to the cracks had only an inch or less extending 2 feet on either side of crack. I would recommend using a bridge to cross. There was a lot of open water on the west side of the lake yesterday because of the heavy west winds all day. It is very windy and cold today. There should be enough ice for ATV travel for Saturday's full moon.

December 6, 2011
Ice started looking good on Sunday so on Monday I went out. I found mostly 1 inch out to the break. When I looked again at lunch most of the ice moved out about a mile. I went out today and the newly formed ice was only about 1/2 inch and it started in about 10 – 12 feet of water. The wind is from the south so this ice should stay. I will go back out tomorrow.
